Bike Rider

Last year for his eighth birthday we gave Deston a bike. He'd been tearing through the neighborhood on his scooter for years and we figured it was time for the next level of transportation. He's a natural to say the least. The first time he tried, he was able to balance himself and start pedaling. Within three times of being on the bike, he was riding. We thought we would remove the pedals and let him ride that way until he figured out how to balance. That plan turned out to be unnecessary--he was highly motivated to get pedaling. The upside of those early rides was all the exercise Andrew got running alongside Deston!

We got him a bell and now he sails down the sidewalks, dinging his bell so pedestrians will make way for him. The daredevil in him is practicing riding with no hands. We have a lot of great parks nearby that are wonderful for riding. A good bike ride is just the thing to get a lot of his excess energy out.
